Meet Jael.
Rooted in ancestral Afrikan wisdom. Guided by compassion. Dedicated to holistic wellbeing.
I’m Jael, founder of Wellness With Jael. My work is inspired by ancient Afrikan birth wisdom and the traditions that have been preserved and carried forward through generations of Black birth workers, including the Granny Midwives of the Americas. These teachings continue to shape the way I care for families today, blending ancestral knowledge with respectful, evidence-informed support.
I provide personalised support throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding, helping families feel informed, confident and empowered to make the choices that are right for them.
My passion for holistic health extends beyond birth. Since 2018, I have been creating my own vegan, natural and organic wellness products, believing that what we put on and into our bodies should nourish rather than harm. I also offer one-to-one health and wellness consultations, supporting people in making sustainable lifestyle choices that honour both body and mind.
Alongside my birth work, I am developing Little Voices – Big Feelings, a wellbeing programme that helps children understand, express and regulate their emotions through compassionate, engaging and culturally inclusive approaches.
Whether I am supporting a birth, guiding a family, creating natural remedies or nurturing emotional wellbeing, my purpose remains the same: to help individuals and families reconnect with their innate wisdom, feel empowered in their choices and know that they never have to walk their journey alone.
My Story.
My journey into birth work began with the birth of my daughter in 2021.
When I became pregnant in 2020, I envisioned a peaceful home birth surrounded by love, trust and the comfort of my own space. However, after unexpected health complications, my birth journey took a very different path and ended in an emergency caesarean section.
Although I was incredibly grateful that my daughter and I were safe, I was left carrying feelings of sadness, disappointment and failure. As I reflected on my experience, I realised how much I hadn’t known during my pregnancy and how different my journey might have been if I had received more education, support and truly informed care.
In that moment, I made a promise to myself: I would do everything I could to help other mothers feel more informed, more supported and more empowered than I had felt.
Two years later, in 2023, that promise began to take shape.
A close friend had just given birth in hospital. Two days after returning home, she called me in tears. She was exhausted, overwhelmed and struggling to find her footing in those first precious days of motherhood.
Without hesitation, I packed a bag, took my daughter with me and went to be by her side.
At the time, I had no formal training. I simply followed my intuition. I made sure she was nourished, encouraged her to rest, listened without judgement and cared for her with the same love and compassion I would have wanted for myself. Watching her slowly regain her strength and confidence showed me the incredible difference that simply being present can make.
From that day on, I immersed myself in learning everything I could about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and postpartum care. I began supporting more friends, and with each family I worked alongside, my passion for this work grew stronger.
Eventually, one friend asked me to support her during labour and birth. It was an honour that I will never forget. Afterwards, she told me something that has stayed with me ever since: “Having you there changed everything.” As I continued supporting more families, I heard similar words again and again.
Those experiences gave me the confidence to pursue professional training, and in 2026 I completed my doula training with The Original Birth Connection.
Today, I support families through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and the postpartum period with compassionate, culturally responsive and evidence-informed care. Alongside this, I continue my work in holistic wellness and am developing Voices of Fathers, a community project dedicated to creating space for fathers to share their experiences of birth, parenthood and emotional wellbeing.
My own birth journey did not unfold as I had hoped, but it became the beginning of a calling. Every family I support is a reminder of the promise I made to myself after my daughter’s birth: to help others feel seen, informed, respected and never alone as they welcome new life into the world.
